CLAN EVENTS 2008/9
The Society has been invited to appear at the following Scottish events listed below. However, the Society has to confirm booking early and recruit clan volunteers to assist and support the Society and also has to consider and raise the costs to appear at these important events.
We have detailed below the information, please refer also to SOMERLED (the Autumn Edition 2007 and Somerled Spring 2008 edition).
INVERNESS HIGHLAND GAMES, SATURDAY JULY 19TH 2008.
In 2007 this event attracted some 25 clans to participate in the Clan Village Marquee. In 2008 the organisers wish to attract more clans including Clan Mac Dougall Society.
Your Clan requires two/ three clan volunteers to host our stand. Full briefings will be given well in advance, We have one clan volunteer we need a further two please urgently.
Any clan persons wishing to assist our solo volunteer at the Inverness Games in July 2008 please contact our clan office as soon as possible.
ARGYLLSHIRE GAMES, OBAN, 28th August 2008.
This is an important Clan Society Event because it takes place within a short distance from Dunollie Castle, our Clan Seat.
This major attraction will be held in Mossfield, Oban on Thursday, 28th August 2008. The Clan Society stand is scheduled to be located in the Heritage Tent.
The Society needs three volunteers to host the stand for this very attractive day event. The attendance hours is normally 9am to 4pm allowing an hour beforehand for setting up and an hour to pack all the clan items away. A full briefing will be given to the volunteers well in advance.
Like Inverness above it is a pleasant experience meeting people from all over
Scotland and all over the world.
This is a key event for your Society and support and assistance is needed to help promote the Society as well as publicise our support for Homecoming 2009. Help is needed so please contact our clan office.
YEAR FOR THE HOMECOMING SCOTLAND, 2009.
EDINBURGH.
This is a major event that will take place in Scotland in 2009 and is likely to attract a large international audience.
The event will take place in Holyrood Park close to Holyrood Palace and the Scottish Parliament building.
The major dates for the Edinburgh, Scotland event will be Saturday 25th July 2009 and Sunday 26th July 2009. A clan-tented village will be erected in Holyrood Park adjacent to the Royal Palace of Holyrood. The Clan Mac Dougall and Clan Mac Dowall will co-host a large tent in the village.
The Clan Society has been invited to appear at this Clan Gathering and host a Clan Society Stand. Like above, we cannot confirm this appearance unless we have four volunteers to cover the two-day event. There will be a cost factor involved to the Society and they would seek financial support on the basis of volunteers being confirmed to assist. Full briefings would be given to the volunteer team.
Confirmation of volunteers are need as soon as possible to enable the Society to finalise its plans for the Clan Tent. Please see heading Homecoming 2009 for more details located with our Somerled Spring edition 2008 in this clan website.
CLAN MAC DOUGALL INTERNATIONAL GATHERING 2009.
OBAN.
The Society has spent many months attempting to recruit volunteers to promote this four day International Gathering 09 August event to be held in Oban. This was partly to support the Homecoming 09 activities.
Regretfully no volunteers came forward and therefore the International Gathering project was postponed, instead consideration was given to focus on the Dunollie initiative of supporting the July Homecoming 09 and help support this activity.
Our Spring Somerled 08 edition refers, as indeed the Homecoming 09 section in our website.
INTERNATIONAL CLAN EVENTS.
Any clan person touring North America in 2008 can check out via the Association of Scottish Games and Festivals in the list on their website.
There is no guarantee a Mac Dougall Stand will be present at some of these attractions.
The major clan event held in North America is Grandfather Mountain in July.
